Turn On 2-Step Verification For Gmail Account

Activating 2-step verification will help your Gmail account with 2-layer security, making Gmail more secure against unauthorized access. This guide will help you to better secure Gmail. After enabling this setting, each time you sign in to Gmail, your phone will receive a message containing a verification code from Google, without this verification code, you will not be able to sign in to Gmail.

Turning on two-step verification prevents bad guys from accessing your Gmail account if they know your password. An attacker, guessing or stealing your password, CANNOT log in without a verification code sent to your phone.

Below you can see a step-by-step guide to activating two-step verification in your Gmail account.

How to turn on 2-step verification for Gmail

Step 1. First, you access the following link: https://www.google.com/settings/security
Sign in to your Gmail account if you haven’t already done so.

Step 2. Scroll down to the “Password & sign-in method“, in the Two-Step Verification section, click the arrow on the right hand side as shown:

Step 3. You might have to enter the password once more to open the settings.

Step 4. Select GET STARTED to proceed with turning on two-step verification for Gmail.

Step 5. This step, Gmail will ask you to enter the phone number used to receive verification codes, which is also the account number used to secure your account. Gmail verifies in one of two ways: text messages and voice calls. You choose then press NEXT.

Step 6. Gmail will send a verification code to the phone number you provided above. Enter the code in the “Enter the code” box and click NEXT to continue. Or if you haven’t received the verification code, click Resend, Gmail sends you a verification code again.

Step 7. Click TURN ON on the screen below to turn on two-step verification for your Gmail account.

Step 8. When the screen appears as below, you have completed the 2-step security process for Gmail:

Every time you log in to your Gmail account, you must enter the verification code, if you don’t want that, you can choose ADD GOOGLE PROMPT, then follow the instructions on the screen, to receive notifications from Google on your phone and sign in with one touch. Or during the Gmail login process, if used on a personal computer, you should pay attention to the line Don’t ask again on this computer, tick that option so you do not have to enter confirmation code anymore. Remember, this option should only be selected when you use your own computer, in a safe environment.

From now on, when you log in to Gmail on any computer, you will receive a verification code sent to your phone, only by entering that verification code can you sign in to Gmail. It’s too secure, isn’t it?

If you lose your phone, what to do?

In this case, you should use the Backup Code service. If your phone doesn’t receive the code, you can use it to sign in to your account.

Wish you better Gmail security.
